Westgate Urban Woods’ office is located at 9296 Midway with its parent company, Westgate Hardwoods.
Westgate Hardwoods is a full service architectural millwork manufacturing facility. Equipment on the floor includes a 36” two-head wide-belt sander, a 52” three-head widebelt sander, planers, joiners, shapers, CNCs, and several moulders. We can flatten slabs up to 5” thick, 60” wide, and 240” long. Please read below for further details about these resources.
With this equipment we are able to offer our clients a refined product that is more easily handled – flat, square, and ready for the work bench. If you have a smaller shop and would like your rough stock prepared please contact us for a quote.
Rough Milling
WM-1000
The WM-1000 is manufactured by Wood-Mizer. It features 67” cutting capacity in width, and can cut 20 feet in length. It also uses a thin-kerf narrow blade that measures 2″ to 3″ wide and provides more material recovery.
A second advantage of the WM-1000 is its speed. It is a time and money saver for customers who bring in wood for us to cut for them.
We purchased this saw after operating a chain mill for several years. The chain mill has a larger capacity, but the chain took a ½” of material out with each cut. If we were able to get 8 slabs from a log, we threw away 4 inches in sawdust.
LT-70
The LT-70 is a quick and flexible saw. Like the WM-1000 it has a thin-kerf blade, and it is equipped with hydraulic rollers that make it easy to position a log and flip it. The LT is also portable. It does take some work to set it and level it, but it can be easily hooked up to a truck and hauled. Our saw has 25 HP motor, and it can cut 32” wide by 20 feet long.

Drying
At this time we air dry our material. Claro Walnut, in particular, benefits from air drying. This is the best way to achieve the color and qualities prized in the species. The dis-advantage is that it takes more time, but we have stock that’s been drying for 8 years. These pieces feature the best in figure, color and structural integrity.
We do outsource kiln drying. More information is available on request.
Finish Milling
Planers
We have a 36” planer, 2-head. It can take material up to 9” thick. Our second planer is a 30” single head that can handle 7” stock.

| Sanders We have 52” and 36” wide-belt sanders. These are perfect for flattening anything from table tops to rough slabs. Pieces that run through the sander still require finish sanding by hand, but for removing tool marks and creating

CNC Routers
Our first CNC was built by Automotion. We purchased it 2001 and it has been running like a champ ever since. Originally we used it to nest cabinet parts, but now it serves other needs, specifically surfacing slabs. A simple 3-axis machine with lots of horsepower and a heavy duty frame, it is able to handle the rigorous requirements of surfacing. It will take material 5’ wide, 10-12’ long, and up to 5-1/2” thick. For stock longer than 12’ we work with a local manufacturer who has a CNC with a 20’ table.
Our second CNC is a Biesse Rover A. It is a 3-1/2” axis machine. The Rover is designed for more complex operations, such as horizontal milling, aggregate drilling, running door parts, and so on. It is equipped with flat tables, pod and rails, and clamps to hold down a wide range of work pieces.
With either CNC we are able to provide an array of services: special cuts, extreme precision, carving, texturing, surfacing, and nesting.

Other Equipment
In addition to the machinery above, we also have two moulders, half a dozen shapers, a 30” resaw, a Mereen-Johnson gang rip, a 40” wirebrush machine, an RF gluer, two horizontal shapers for making curved mouldings, a Striebig panel saw, and a myriad of other machines that help get the job done.
